Twenty weeks in, it’s time to reflect on the journey thus far and course-correct.
Here's what I've done so far:
This list surprised me. I've done quite a bit! Not to mention keeping up with a full-time job and personal life. It’s been a challenge to find the time to make it all work. Regardless, “I could be doing more” is a common thought I have. It’s time to dig into that. Can I really be doing do more?
After the usual 9-5 work on MSBuild, I try to dedicate a few hours to something productive. Usually, that means working on this blog or the Unreal Engine course. I could spend even more time on these projects, but that would compromise my health & happiness. Something I refuse to do.
Regardless, The Roadmap made it clear that I should be making more progress on the UE4 course. So how do I make more time for it? Something has to give.
The journey will continue, but the blog needs to evolve. This means less frequent, but more meaningful posts. Forcing out a weekly post takes too much of what little time & energy I have after work. That time would be better used in positioning myself as a great gameplay engineer. I just need to be heads-down for a little while.
I’m confident that as soon as I transition jobs and get familiar with the new workflow, work will be fueling the journey instead of taking from it. Once this happens, I can dedicate more time to game design.
Reflecting & adapting is essential for any journey.🍩
